Department of Energy encourages the use of alternative fuels in Philippines

July 29, 2016. The Department of Energy (DOE) has been in various parts of the country to urge transport groups to adopt the DOE-developed energy technologies and alternative fuels which are environment and health-friendly.

Eng. Federico G. Domingo, Supervising Science Research Specialist of the DOE, said these alternative fuels include the use of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in vehicles and in the operation of generators, Natural Gas Vehicle Program for Public Transport and the Electric Vehicles or the E-Trike, powered by lithium-ion batteries.

Domingo, during the recently conducted forum in Aparri town, said these alternative fuels are less expensive than those generated from fossil fuel, environmentally-safe, clean, renewable and most of all inexhaustible.

He expressed hope that with the continuing massive advocacy campaigns initiated by their agency, in partnership with the Philippine Information Agency, more transport sector groups and local government units are encouraged to adopt these programs before 2020.

“Try these new technologies and develop market and supply infrastructure to protect the environment and lessen the country’s dependence on imported oil,” Domingo said.
