MARKET NEWS  Proposal to use natural gas as fuel for public transport in Puebla

August 19, 2013. Transportation units in the Mexican state of Puebla and the conurbation, including Articulated Urban Transport Network (PATH), should use natural gas as fuel instead of diesel, as only then the environmental impact will be less, said David Silva Aguilar, a member of the State Board of Ecology.

According to the official, the measure would allow time savings of 39 percent (between 35 and 45 minutes) and 19 percent in costs. He explained that the removal of vehicles produces higher quality of service and safety in units and filling stations, mitigating at least 25.870 tons per year emissions.

The initial proposal is that vehicles from the Articulated Urban Transport Network be fueled by natural gas instead of diesel, in order to further reduce their emissions.

Silva Aguilar stressed that such actions will enable the inhabitants to live in a more pleasant and healthy place, with less pollution, which will also give them a bonus to their lives.
